It’s not a phone, it’s a lifestyle

This month’s Communication Arts has an outstanding article on the future of mobile computing and the effects it will have on photographers, designers and consumers.

Don’t Call it a Phone: The Future Of Mobile Computing emphasizes the role of mobile devices as a new publishing platform, shipping assistant, tour guide, media & entertainment system, and tool for connecting with our friends in the real world. With the examples and opportunities presented, we begin to see how transformative mobile devices will be.

One quote in particular stands out:

“When you begin thinking about the device as a mode of interaction with the world around you, that’s future thinking.”

* I couldn’t find the article on the Communication Arts Web site. Hopefully, it will be posted in a couple of days. If so, I’ll post a link here on this site. -JK
